The Landslides, Floods, Cyclones and Earthquakes COPE books I illustrated were translated into Nepali some time ago, and they continue to make a lasting impact in local communities. These stories are helping children and educators across Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Pokhara engage with disaster risk reduction (DRR) in fun, meaningful, and culturally relevant ways.
Through storytelling, COPE helps transform complex climate and disaster concepts into engaging, age-appropriate messages—empowering children to understand the risks around them and take action.
This effort is part of a powerful initiative titled:
“Symphony for the Future: Laying a Foundation for the Next Climate and Disaster Resilience Generation.” Led by COPE collaborators Anish and Sonika in Western Nepal, the project brought together schools, civil society, and local communities to strengthen resilience from the ground up.
A huge thank you to everyone involved, especially all the dedicated COPE partners in Nepal. Your commitment is helping us scale up local resilience through education, in the language of the people.
Together, we’re helping the next generation of disaster champions rise strong.
