Point Reyes

We just spent a week in Point Reyes, working in a different environment, and taking time each day to explore the area. I managed a few sketches here and there, experimenting with new watercolours…

The brilliant blue California skies and rolling hills are always fascinating and exotic to me. I feel like I’m in a movie when we drive through these landscapes.

We ate in some wonderful restaurants, and got supplies from my favourite bakery, Brickmaiden Breads.

We explored the peninsula and saw elk and deer and all sorts of incredible sea birds. I could watch pelicans flying low over the sea all day! I even saw otters playing in a river.

We went to visit the shipwreck in Inverness, which seems to be collapsing at an incredible rate…

The airbnb we stayed in was a retro beauty with a bright yellow and green kitchen full of sunshine in the morning. Heavenly!

I always forget how peaceful the countryside can be in the evenings - I heard great horned owls hooting in the night, and watched the stars in clear skies. I can’t believe you can see the Milky Way so perfectly!

We stopped at a farm stand by the side of the road and I got these lovely flowers which complimented the yellow kitchen and made me so happy.

Although we were working all week during the day, it still felt like a holiday. And we took the long weekend off to stay in Petaluma…
