Hong Kong is the city of my heart, and it's totally breaking. I can't believe what's happening. I was there just over a month ago, and although there was tension in the air, it was nothing like what's going on now. Please show your support and spread the news.I love you Hong Kong!
Hong Kong
Pyaar
I recently designed the logo for new lifestyle store Pyaar in Hong Kong. It features hand-made and eco-friendly products from around the world, with a relaxed and modern aesthetic, and I tried to show this in the logo.
I hope you'll all drop by! Totally loving the house-shaped cookies...
Chinese New Year ceramic gift set
Chinese New Year is rapidly approaching, and this pretty new set of my HK toile ceramics might be just what you need to see in the start of the Year of the Horse...I love the little dim sum and egg tarts in the centre of the plates and bowls! All are available direct from faux in HK..
Hong Kong food guide
I've recently done the cover and inside chapter artwork for the Word of Mouth restaurant guide for Hong Kong and Macau. It's full of amazing reviews and ideas...I worked on the book with Sandy at Lui & Co design company in HK, which is always a pleasure. It's available at most book stores in HK.
Jenny's wedding
I created the Save the Date and wedding info card for Jenny and Randy in Hong Kong this summer. Their Save the Date was interesting, as they asked for a map showing all the places that meant something in their lives, especially Okinawa in Japan, where they got engaged. They requested three colours: brown, pink and champagne...
I then made a more detailed map of Bali, where the wedding was taking place, showing all the various wedding event venues. It featured little pictorial icons of some of the surprises in store for their guests.
They also printed tote bags featuring the Save the Date map as favours for their guests. Nice!
Congratulations guys! What a cute couple...

interview blog
I did an interview this week with lovely Hong Kong lifestyle blog shoebox living... Be sure to go to the actual blog to catch up on all sorts of other wonderful Hong Kong news too...
Janice's wedding
Another pretty wedding project for a client in Hong Kong. She asked for two pheonixes, a bird symbolising longevity, that could be used in various elements of her wedding. I created several stages of the pheonix motif, in two slightly different colourways.
The first illustration showed two flying birds, with the bride and groom's names interwoven into the design. This was used on the Save the Date notification and formal invitations, in the traditional Chinese wedding colours of red and gold. The next version of the illustration showed the story growing, and included a little landscape, with a tree and butterflies. This was used on the first stage backdrop used at the actual wedding, in soft pinks, with a watercolour textured backgoround.
The illustration developed, with clouds and a golden moon, for the next stage backdrop in red and gold...
And the final development of the illustration included musicians outside a cosy house, and a little golden nest in the tree. This was used on a specially made china teacup, given as a wedding favour to each guest.
I adore this cup, it's such a lovely gift to remember the wedding...
printmaking workshops
I gave several printmaking workshops recently, at an International school in Hong Kong. I showed the students various techniques for mono-printing (handy as no presses are needed) and we used the table surfaces to print from.I encouraged them to experiment and explore, and they were so enthusiastic it really inspired me. I taught the IB students (16-18 years old),
and also some primary classes (9-11yrs old)
and they all produced amazing work...
I hope they enjoyed the classes as much as I did!
AERIS magazine interview
I've been interviewed in the current issue of AERIS, a China-based online cultural lifestyle magazine. You can read the whole issue online, or take a sneak peek at my pages here...
Lane Crawford gift cards
I've designed some festive season, electronic gift cards for Lane Crawford, the exclusive luxury department store in Hong Kong. They are the latest in their 'artist series'.
There are three designs to choose from, the first is a simple reindeer on a metallic aqua background, the second is a selection of winter holiday sketches on silver...
and the third is a special Christmas gold and red version of my HK toile...
(You can still buy the toile teasets at Lane Crawford by the way). Happy Christmas shopping!
Kate Spade party
Kate Spade has just opened a shiny new store in Pacific Place shopping mall in Hong Kong, and I was asked to be a guest artist at the opening party. I drew sketches of the customers and VIPs (who had each been given a fabric flower to wear for the event), and gave them to everyone to keep as a souvenir gift.It was fun! I kept the portraits light, pretty, and in the style of the evening. Each one had a dash of watercolour red and pink for the flowers, and took under five minutes to complete. I think most of the guests were happy with their pictures...
I had expected it to be mostly women, but alot of men sat for me also, which was great.
There were a few local celebrities there, and I even drew a portrait for Stephy, a canto-pop singer.
Check out all the HK stores (ifc, Harbour City & Elements, as well as PP) if you're into super nice handbags and accessories!
private view tonight!
connecting your world
Hello! I've just found out that an illustration I entered into the Cathay Pacific competition 'connecting your world' won a prize! I'm very excited. The competition was for images or text that showed how air transport connected Hong Kong to the world, in a creative and inspiring way, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight to HK in 1911.
My winning picture...
And the photo I entered, that didn't win, but that I still think is pretty good ...
